Well, we all know that the XBOX 360 is famous for three things: great gaming, online connectivity... and of course its numerous different errors. This article will discuss the "E" errors, denoted by an on screen "E--" code, "--" are the 2 digits after the "E" for example E74, E45, E71 etc.
An "E" error occurs when your XBOX 360 receives 1 red light in the bottom left hand corner, if it occurs it will usually happen after a system re-boot.
A common "E" error known as the E74 Error is often initiated while playing a game. The screen may begin to seem discolored or "fuzzy", when the system is rebooted you will receive 1 red flashing light and an onscreen E74 error.
E64, E65 and E66 - DVD Drive errors, try rebooting your system.
E67 , E68 and E69 - Hard Drive Problems. Try unplugging your hard drive and playing without it, or if you can re format it. Make sure the clip is fitted properly.
E73 - General Hardware Error - Can be caused by problems with the Ethernet/networking port, if you have a RJ45/ Ethernet cable plugged in try playing without it.
E74 - There are many reasons for such a problem. The first and most common is a incorrectly installed AV cable, try to disconnect/ re connect it to fix this error. If this is not the problem it is then again probably one of two things: a) ANA / HANA chip is faulty, a fix for this can be found at the bottom b) A general hardware error usually related to your XBOX 360 system overheating. This error type is very similar to the red ring of death, but unfortunately you"re not covered by Microsoft"s 3 year extended warranty for this type of error. For a quick and easy solution, see below
E79 - Hard Drive Error. Try to unplug the hardrive, make sure the clip is fitted properly or try to play without it.
